Perfume Course for Flexible Study

In response to demand for flexible fragrance study material, we are pleased to offer our Self Study Perfume Courses.

In Spring 2012 we will be offering a Perfumery Training Self Study Course, which is focussed on perfumery techniques, including practical techniques, information and study to prepare for a creative career as a Perfumer. Self Study Perfume Course

Both courses include written study material in the form of a 50 page work book, access to a Perfumer during studies, and an optional final study to complete in order to obtain a Perfume Training Course Certificate. Additionally, Perfume Course Option A includes smelling blotters and 20 samples of perfume ingredients, simple mixtures and fragrances.

Our Self Study Perfume Courses contain 6 sections, which take you on a fragrant voyage of discovery:

  • Ingredients of Perfumery
  • Perfume Creation
  • Perfume Evaluation

Perfume Courses

The course has been written and is administered by Penny Williams, a fully qualified Perfumer, British Society of Perfumers Member and experienced fragrance trainer.

On completion of the course, there is an optional exercise to complete. Successful completion leads to you being awarded a Perfume Training Course Certificate.

    • How and why fragrances are structured as they are with top, middle and base notes. Accompanied by samples.
    • Different sources of perfume ingredients, how they are produced and how they smell.

  • Ingredients of Perfumery
    • Further ingredients grouped by odour character
    • Samples such as Ylang Ylang
    • Extended smelling opportunities through commonly found ingredients
  • Perfume Creation
    • How Perfumers and the Perfume Industry works
    • Example Fragrance Project and a simple mixture to unravel
  • Perfume Evaluation
    • Fragrance families and additional perfumery language
    • Fragrances to smell which capture the character of the fragrance family
    • Smelling Techniques and evaluation
    • Common problems with fragrance
  • Samples & blotters
    • 5 chemicals, 4 essential oils, 4 simple blends of chemicals and 7 perfumes
    • All samples are oil based and do not containing ethanol. Each one has been selected to help understand the subjects covered.

    • NB Samples and blotters are only included in Option A.
    • In Option B, students are given suggestions for things to smell from fruit, to spices and flowers as well as marketed fine fragrances.
